Monitor(s)

A significant role in modeling is played by such, at first glance, an extraneous thing as a computer. And especially for me, because in addition to modeling itself, I am also involved in its virtual areas.

In short: I simply couldn’t imagine my workplace without a computer.

At the same time, I have another need that makes it difficult to implement. If normal people sit in front of one monitor, then I need to sit in front of two at the same time. At one time, my IT colleagues got me hooked on this. And then I transferred this to home conditions.

On the screen is a working moment on compiling a kitography of Soviet tankmen figures. (If anyone is not aware, this kitography and some others are available for use and free download on my website “In the Mirror of 1/35 Scale“.)

What am I getting at? I mean that I need a little more space on my desktop for my computer and monitors than normal people. I accidentally found a design for two monitors called ErgoFount BSSW-02

At that time it cost a little less, and it was cheaper than its smaller brother for one monitor (now, I understand that – there are far fewer schizoids with two monitors than single-monitor straights).

How long is it short, but a heavy package arrived to me.

Everything is very decently packaged,

stuffed into bags and labeled.

No additional resources were required! There were no problems with the instructions either. To determine the optimal placement location, cardboard models were created to match the monitors’ size and full-scale tests were conducted.

The choice was determined by the need for access to the monitor both during the assembly of the model and during its painting, i.e. it should be at a comfortable angle and a convenient distance to these two zones. Here is a photo immediately after installation.

Based on the results of several months of operation, I can voice the following theses:

  1. It is not so often necessary to look at the monitor when assembling and painting the model. Although sometimes it is still necessary.
  2. Not much space has been saved on the desktop: anyway, this design is located low and you can’t put anything on the table under it.  But! If before the space behind the monitor was definitely a kingdom of darkness and dust, now it is accessible and transparent. That is, there is some saving.
  3. It turned out to be extremely convenient to access the computer while standing (sometimes it is necessary). I am of considerable age, my back is stiff, and here, instead of bending over, you can lift the monitor itself.

When I wrote back in 2015, “Of course, a computer will fit in there somewhere. I didn’t even imagine that it would be so “somewhere there“!
